This work is an installation resembling a greenhouse covered with semi-transparent sheets, inspired by botanical garden greenhouses and experimental fields for genetically modified crops.

 

Inside the greenhouse, white light flickers and oscillates, casting blurry images of plants through the sheet. The black shadows of these plants are projected onto the surfaces, constantly alternating in a state that blurs the distinction between reality and illusion.

 

Additionally, from within the installation, various sounds can be heard: the breath of organisms, sounds resembling predation, medical devices performing actions on living organisms, or chemicals dissolving something, creating a continuous sense of metamorphosis.

 

The image of a kind of spirituality or sacredness that is achieved by consciously trying to reverse the dichotomies of "human and non-human", "entity and illusion", or "male and female" into an undifferentiated state is seen in folklore and myths from various regions. In this work, the artist aims to create a sense that we, who are familiar with highly industrialized genetic engineering and bioengineering, are transcending the various boundaries surrounding human beings in a way that is the exact opposite of the mythological method.

 
 
 
本作は実験植物園の温室や、遺伝子組み換え作物の試験ほ場から着想を得た、半透明のビニールによって覆われた温室状のインスタレーションです。
 
温室内では、白い光が揺れながら明滅を繰り返しており、ビニール越しにぼやけて見える植物の姿と、表面に映される植物の黒い影とが、絶えずゆらゆらと交替しながら、実体とも虚像ともつかないような状態であらわれるようになっています。
 
さらに内部からは、生物の息遣いや、何かを捕食するような音、医療器具が生物になんらかの行為を施すような音、または薬品が何かを溶かしていくような音..といったさまざまな音が聴こえ、絶えず何ものかが変態を繰り返しているかのようです。
 
ある対立する二項（ex.人間と非人間、実体と幻影、男と女など）を恣意的に未分化な状態へと逆行することで獲得される、ある種の霊性・神聖性のようなイメージは、さまざまな地域の民話や神話において見られますが、この作品では、高度に産業化された遺伝子工学や生物工学を身近なものとする私たちが、神話的方法とは真逆の方法で、人間をとりまくさまざまな境界を越境していく感覚を作品化することを目指しています。
